Congratulations to Piedmont Health WIC program for receiving the WIC Breastfeeding Award of Excellence Gold Award from the USDA!
The WIC Breastfeeding Award of Excellence Program recognizes local WIC agencies that have demonstrated model practices in Breastfeeding Peer Counseling (BFPC), as well as those who are at varying stages of implementing exemplary breastfeeding promotion and support practices. The award program recognizes local WIC agencies at three levels of performance: Gold, Premiere, and Elite. This year the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reported that NC Tops the Southeast Breastfeeding Awards of Excellence. Piedmont Health WIC is one of the 8 local agencies receiving the award in North Carolina. Piedmont Health will receive the Gold Award during the Breastfeeding Awards of Excellence Celebration on August 31.
The Piedmont Health WIC program is a dedicated Breastfeed Orange NC stakeholder and advocate, supporting families to successfully breastfeed and supporting our community to welcome all lactating families. While the North Carolina breastfeeding initiation rate is just over 80%, the Orange County breastfeeding initiation rate is over 90%. The hard work of the breastfeeding team from Piedmont WIC program is helping to keep those rates high!
