Stakeholder Spotlight: Supporting Employees at Community School for People under Six

The philosophy of Community School for People under Six is “Preparing our Children for a Brighter Tomorrow.” This belief extends beyond the classroom to the support that employees receive to continue to breastfeed, chestfeed, and provide human milk!

Breastfeed Orange NC is grateful for their support as a community partner and employer, advocate, and stakeholder!

While we can lift up the work of Community School for People under Six, we cannot say it as well as those who are part of the Community School community. Faith McLean-Hackney, Early Educator/Teacher at Community School for People under Six, generously shared the many ways that breastfeeding employees and parents are supported.

When I think of breastfeeding support, I think of Community School for People under Six!

My children’s center has allowed me the opportunity of feeling supported through my journey as a breastfeeding mother; from having a breastfeeding friendly room that promotes peace and serenity to the breastfeeding and bonding experience between mother and child to scheduling breastfeeding and pumping breaks from an employee standpoint to providing various resources. Community School just makes breastfeeding doable as a mother who juggles a lot of hats in life.

I appreciate their every effort in my breastfeeding experience.

Wondering How To Get Started in Your Program?

A great place to start is where Community School for People under Six started. View the Building Blocks to Breastfeeding Friendly Childcare session – Creating a Breastfeeding Space – to hear from Faith McLean-Hackney and Anna Mercer-McLean, the Director, as they share their journey to create a welcoming lactation space. After finishing the session, consider viewing all the sessions in the Building Blocks to Breastfeeding Friendly Childcare series.

The Orange County Partnership for Young Children (OCPYC) also is a great resource. The OCPYC team is knowledgeable and enthusiastic. They can provide technical assistance and encouragement throughout the journey from taking the first steps to creating your lactation space to completing the local or state designation.

Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities/Breastfeed Orange NC can provide support, too. Follow the link below to the “Community Partner and Employer Award” or “Premio al Socio Comunitario y al Empleador”, or reach out to the Breastfeed Orange NC team to help you with the application (orangenc@breastfeedingcommunities.org).

Thank you to Community School for People under Six for your welcome and support for families and staff! Breastfeed Orange NC is delighted to share the Stakeholder Spotlight with Community School for People under Six!
