October has been proclaimed American Pharmacists Month locally and Statewide. Before this month ends, Breastfeed Orange NC is excited to share these proclamations and the support of our local pharmacists in helping to build a community that supports nursing infants and their families.
In Carrboro, Mayor Barbara Foushee proclaimed October 2025 as American Pharmacists Month in Carrboro, supporting the declaration of the American Pharmacists Association and the Carolina Association of Pharmacy Students at the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. The proclamation recognized the contributions of local pharmacists and student pharmacists and their support for our community through outreach and participation in community events.
These services make preventive health care more accessible to Carrboro residents, while strengthening awareness of medication use, chronic disease management, and wellness.

Governor Josh Stein also proclaimed October as American Pharmacists Month for North Carolina. The proclamation recognized the many important contributions of pharmacists. Pharmacists work collaboratively with other health care providers and patients in our communities to improve medication use.
Pharmacists provide both expertise and accessibility, which are crucial to patients fully optimizing access to medications, and provide patient care that ensures optimal medication therapy outcomes.

We are grateful for their support, which is an integral part of a community that recognizes the importance of welcoming families to breastfeed, chestfeed, and provide human milk. Their support as Community Partners and Employers builds awareness of breastfeeding and providing human milk as a health equity concern and vital for the health and development of children, their families, and our communities.
As Community Partners, these dedicated pharmacists have affirmed their commitment to providing a welcome for families:
 • Families that breastfeed, chestfeed, and feed their little ones human milk feeding are always welcome and respected. The families will never be
treated poorly, asked to stop nursing, or asked to cover up or move.
 • The pharmacies do not advertise infant formula or related products.
 • The pharmacies support all breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and human milk feeding families inclusive of their race, ethnicity, immigration status, nationality, creed, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, family structure, primary language, ability, or class.
As Employers, they affirmed their support for their lactating employees:
 • All lactating employees are allowed breaks to express milk or nurse their children.
 • All lactating employees have access to a private space for expressing milk or nursing. The space is shielded from view and has an electrical
outlet. The space is not a bathroom.
 • The private lactation space has hand hygiene, such as hand sanitizer or a sink, available nearby.

Thank you to Carrboro Family Pharmacy, Southern Village Pharmacy, and Tarheel Town Pharmacy for your support for nursing families and employees in our community!
