Breastfeed Orange NC is pleased to announce that Carrboro has successfully completed all Ten Steps towards a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community. And you are invited to the celebration!
Here is a summary of the Steps. More to come about each step.
Step 1 – How Town Council has proclaimed its support for families as a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community.
Step 2 – Welcoming Atmosphere in the Community.
Step 3 – Health Leadership supports optimal infant feeding recommendations as defined by the World Health Organization
Step 4 – Families are informed about the importance of chest/breastfeeding in the community through non-commercial educations materials via the local health sector and community organizations.
Step 5 – Healthcare in the community is breastfeeding-friendly.
Step 6 – Community lactation support is fully available and community collaboration between health systems and community partners is well-documented.
Step 7 – Businesses and organizations have signed on to the initiative as community partners.
Step 8 – Our local healthcare facilities do not promote commercial breast-milk substitutes, and local grocery stores, food markets, convenience stores and pharmacies are free from advertising or giving preferential placement of commercial breast-milk substitutes.
Step 9 – The Business case for breastfeeding is promoted by the NC Department of Health and Human Services, and the Carrboro business community has shared information with businesses.
Step 10 – Our local education system and childcare programs provide books and/or images that illustrate chest/breastfeeding as the norm.
