Why is Breastfeeding Friendly Child Care Important?

Breastfeeding provides the best start for infants and young children with the important building blocks for optimal development. Families want to continue to breastfeed/chestfeed and provide their milk for their children after returning to work or school. Childcare providers play an important role in helping families meet their infant feeding goals by welcoming families to bring their expressed milk and to feed their children at drop-off or pick up. Your lactating employees benefit from policies that welcome them to take breaks to feed their children or express their milk. A Breastfeeding Friendly Child Care program offers families and employees policies and practices that encourage families to continue breastfeeding.
