Families and communities in Western North Carolina continue to struggle with the overwhelming devastation and loss in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Many of us have family and friends there, and it is hard to just watch the continuing images unfold in our social media and news. We are sharing some resources to support the families and communities during this challenging time.
MomsRising has put together an extensive list of resources - Hurricane Helene: Resources for NC Families. Many families still are unable to access the information. Please help to spread the word to get the information and resources to those who need them!
Infants and children are the most vulnerable in emergencies. We all want to do everything we can to help the children and their families.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies Toolkit provides information and resources for communities, states, emergency preparedness and response teams, families, and all of us to ensure that children are safely nourished and nurtured. Take some time to become familiar with the information and share with relief workers.
Lactating families might need reassurance, and relief workers might benefit from a reminder, about the importance of breastfeeding during an emergency. This resource from La Leche League USA - Breastfeeding in an Emergency - offers valuable information.
Families continue to need lactation support! Please consider donating to the NC Breastfeeding Coalition fund to support lactation professionals who are on the ground.
